It was an absolute honour to be asked to unveil the redesigned children’s day surgery unit at James Cook University Hospital.

The unit cares for children aged from four months to 19 years old who are expected to be able to go home on the day of their operation. It is now split into different zones with a new central play area, sensory side room and an adolescent area.

It really is a welcoming environment designed to help put children and their families at ease. I was delighted to meet the clinical team and cut the ribbon on this new facility.
