Families across the country who are facing soaring fuel bills are not to blame for this cost of living and energy crisis. Yet, the Tories believe ordinary people should bear the financial burden of this unprecedented situation. Why should householders be paying for decades to come for something they have not caused?

It is also vital that businesses and public services such as schools and hospitals are supported financially if they are to survive.

I know from talking to constituents and businesses across Middlesbrough just how worried they are about, not just the winter months, but for the foreseeable future.

Labour have been very clear that we would freeze energy bills to help people avoid being left hungry, cold and in serious financial dire straits. We would do that fairly through a windfall tax on the, quite frankly astronomical, oil and gas profits. That is where the responsibility lies.
